Gala now not till 2022
I am sorry to say that we, like other Galas in the area, are unable to organise our Village Gala Day this year.
Unfortunately, the Government’s possibility of returning to normal life on the 21st of June (if all goes to plan) is only 11 days before our Gala Day on Sat 3rd of July. The Gala Committee feel that this is too close to Gala Day, as we need to be making bookings and paying deposits for marquees, toilets, insurance, businesses and equipment now.
We don’t know what restrictions or Health & Safety rules will have to be put in place for a ‘Covid Safe’ event. We cannot get confirmation that the actual procession will be allowed to go ahead, as no one knows what guidance will be put in place for mass gatherings and will probably not be known until the 21st of June at the earliest.
This event is put on each year with an aim to provide a Procession and Crowning of Gala Royalty. The event is put on by volunteer committee members from Hambleton village for everyone’s enjoyment, young and old. As yet not all residents will have had their first vaccine (including some committee members) and as such will not know if they will have had their 2nd vaccine before the 3rd of July.
We have looked at moving dates to later on in the year but a big part of the procession is the visiting Royalty from other surrounding Galas. They have already postponed to 2022, which means we will have no visiting Royalty.
As always, thank you for all your support. Stay safe.
Hambleton Gala 2019: Village Life at its Finest!
Wow!! This year's Gala was bigger, and hotter, than ever before and what a fabulous day we all had. We would like to thank everyone who supported us, prior to and on the day, and all who attended. It was lovely to see so many people lining the streets of the procession route, and then joining us on the Bob Williamson Park for the crowning of Queen Imogen Preston, aged 11 years. An afternoon of fantastic, talented entertainment followed, with a record turnout of support on the gala field.
Hambleton WI decided to celebrate the 80 years since they started by joining this year’s procession in a decorated bus.
We had so many entries for our 'Red White and Blue' competitions (both gardens and children's colouring), and the 'Village Bake Off' saw some very tasty cakes displayed in the main marquee for judging too. The U9s & U7s Invitational Football Tournaments provided lots of healthy, competitive fun for all those involved and those spectating!
The local community, organisations and businesses have really supported us in putting on this year's Gala and we really can't thank you enough. It is very much appreciated and we couldn't do it without you! The tombola stall was generously supported by the staff and parents of Hambleton Primary Academy, the tea tent was down the hard work of villagers and groups coming together. To everyone who helped us on the field and marshal the roads (especially Poulton Rotary) to help keep everyone safe - thank you! We must also thank all the attending Gala Queens, all of who looked beautiful with their supporting retinues, and everyone that took part in the procession. We had some brilliant fancy dress entries and decorated floats take part this year. We really do understand how much planning and hard work it takes and are so grateful to you all for supporting the Gala. We hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we did. If you have any feedback or ideas on how we can keep improving this village event then please get in touch and let us know, or if you are interested in joining our committee then please come along to our AGM, to be held on 7:30pm Monday 10th September at Hambleton Village Hall. Help us to plan a fabulous day for 2020!
“This year had a traditional, old-school family feel to the event, a great day for young & old villagers alike.”
