Gala Weekend but not as we thought!

The Gala Committee are all disappointed not to be enjoying Gala day today, especially for the current Queen Imogen, as well as the new Queen Elect Niamh and their respective retinues.

For those of you that missed the decision taken in April, working alongside Wyre Borough Council, all galas and events were cancelled due to Covid19. (Document from Wyre below)

The Committee agreed to postpone everything until 2021. This year’s Retinues were all informed and they have all agreed to join us next year to represent Hambleton in 2021.

Looking at the weather today (and the awful week we have had) I feel that we have avoided a very wet and muddy day!

We will be holding our annual AGM on Monday September the 14th at 8pm in the Village Hall (subject to Gov guidelines). Anyone who would like to join us is very welcome to attend. Hopefully, we will be back in the Autumn with our very popular Chocolate Bingo nights.

Applaud the NHS 5th July 5pm

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those Key Workers that have kept us all going over this difficult time and hope you will join us in celebrating the NHS’s 72nd Birthday tomorrow. On Sunday July 5th at 5pm there will be a national applaud to honour the commitment, courage and sacrifice from so many in the NHS.

Light up to Remember 4th July Evening

The NHS are also asking that today we have a moment of reflection and remembrance of all those that that we have lost through this pandemic. Buildings across the country will be lit up blue, including the London Eye and our very own Blackpool Tower. To be a part of this remembrance place a light in a window and take a couple of minutes to reflect.

Hambleton Gala 2019: Village Life at its Finest!

Wow!! This year's Gala was bigger, and hotter, than ever before and what a fabulous day we all had. We would like to thank everyone who supported us, prior to and on the day, and all who attended. It was lovely to see so many people lining the streets of the procession route, and then joining us on the Bob Williamson Park for the crowning of Queen Imogen Preston, aged 11 years. An afternoon of fantastic, talented entertainment followed, with a record turnout of support on the gala field.

Hambleton WI decided to celebrate the 80 years since they started by joining this year’s procession in a decorated bus.

We had so many entries for our 'Red White and Blue' competitions (both gardens and children's colouring), and the 'Village Bake Off' saw some very tasty cakes displayed in the main marquee for judging too. The U9s & U7s Invitational Football Tournaments provided lots of healthy, competitive fun for all those involved and those spectating!

The local community, organisations and businesses have really supported us in putting on this year's Gala and we really can't thank you enough. It is very much appreciated and we couldn't do it without you!  The tombola stall was generously supported by the staff and parents of Hambleton Primary Academy, the tea tent was down the hard work of villagers and groups coming together. To everyone who helped us on the field and marshal the roads (especially Poulton Rotary) to help keep everyone safe - thank you! We must also thank all the attending Gala Queens, all of who looked beautiful with their supporting retinues, and everyone that took part in the procession. We had some brilliant fancy dress entries and decorated floats take part this year. We really do understand how much planning and hard work it takes and are so grateful to you all for supporting the Gala. We hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we did. If you have any feedback or ideas on how we can keep improving this village event then please get in touch and let us know, or if you are interested in joining our committee then please come along to our AGM, to be held on 7:30pm Monday 10th September at Hambleton Village Hall. Help us to plan a fabulous day for 2020!

“This year had a traditional, old-school family feel to the event, a great day for young & old villagers alike.”
