Hambleton Gala Cancelled till 2021

I am sorry to say that we have had to cancel our village Gala Day this year.

Wyre Borough Council have stated the following.

Following advice from the Government , Wyre Council has taken the decision to cancel all our events for the next 12 weeks. This includes external events holding a Use of Land License or a Temporary Road closure order issued by Wyre Council, throughout the cancellation period.

We would also seriously urge you to start to think about any events beyond this 12 week period, as it is quite likely that the cancellation timeframe may need to be extended further. The Wyre Safety Advisory Group, compromising of the emergency services and council officers, believe that events throughout later Spring and Summer may continue to put additional unnecessary strains on services (particularly North West Ambulance Service) and so further cancellations may be unavoidable.

Gala Day is 14 weeks away however we cannot guarantee that we would get an approved road closure and as such we would not be able to put on the procession. The procession is a big part of Gala Day. As we get closer to the date we would need to pay out for more and more services and ask for all the help, services and time that is offered up by this village would then be wasted.

It also means other Galas who are within the 12 weeks have already cancelled, and as such have no new Gala Queens to visit our Gala. This year’s Retinue have all been told and they have all agreed to join us next year and represent Hambleton in 2021. Therefore, the Gala Committee have all agreed to postpone till 2021.

Please feel free read the statement below from Wyre Borough Council.

As always, thank you for all your support. Stay safe and take care and see you all on Gala Day Saturday 3rd July 2021.

Hambleton Gala 2019: Village Life at its Finest!

Wow!! This year's Gala was bigger, and hotter, than ever before and what a fabulous day we all had. We would like to thank everyone who supported us, prior to and on the day, and all who attended. It was lovely to see so many people lining the streets of the procession route, and then joining us on the Bob Williamson Park for the crowning of Queen Imogen Preston, aged 11 years. An afternoon of fantastic, talented entertainment followed, with a record turnout of support on the gala field.

Hambleton WI decided to celebrate the 80 years since they started by joining this year’s procession in a decorated bus.

We had so many entries for our 'Red White and Blue' competitions (both gardens and children's colouring), and the 'Village Bake Off' saw some very tasty cakes displayed in the main marquee for judging too. The U9s & U7s Invitational Football Tournaments provided lots of healthy, competitive fun for all those involved and those spectating!

The local community, organisations and businesses have really supported us in putting on this year's Gala and we really can't thank you enough. It is very much appreciated and we couldn't do it without you!  The tombola stall was generously supported by the staff and parents of Hambleton Primary Academy, the tea tent was down the hard work of villagers and groups coming together. To everyone who helped us on the field and marshal the roads (especially Poulton Rotary) to help keep everyone safe - thank you! We must also thank all the attending Gala Queens, all of who looked beautiful with their supporting retinues, and everyone that took part in the procession. We had some brilliant fancy dress entries and decorated floats take part this year. We really do understand how much planning and hard work it takes and are so grateful to you all for supporting the Gala. We hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we did. If you have any feedback or ideas on how we can keep improving this village event then please get in touch and let us know, or if you are interested in joining our committee then please come along to our AGM, to be held on 7:30pm Monday 10th September at Hambleton Village Hall. Help us to plan a fabulous day for 2020!

“This year had a traditional, old-school family feel to the event, a great day for young & old villagers alike.”
